Population

The population of Turkey has a very positive effect on the economy of the country in terms of demography and offers many opportunities for investors. Investors, who face significant difficulties such as the aging and declining population in Europe, consider the young and educated population of Turkey as an important advantage. Turkey offers unique opportunities with its strong labor market and young, dynamic and increasing population, which form the basis of the vivid domestic market.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), the population of Turkey, which was 80.8 million in 2017, is expected to reach 86.9 million by 2023 and 100.3 million by 2040. It is predicted that the population will maintain its growth momentum and reach 107.6 million, the peak point in 2069.

Turkey, with half of its population under the age of 31.7 in 2017, has the youngest population compared to EU member states.

Over the past decade, Turkey’s age-dependency ratio has maintained ​its downward trend, allowing more flexibility in government expenditure on healthcare, social security, and education.

Labor Force

Turkey's overall labor force is around 31.6 million people, which makes the country the 3rd largest labor force in Europe. Turkey’s young population is an important contributor to labor force growth and has boosted the country’s rank over peer countries. Turkey has realized the largest labor force growth among the EU countries. ​

A rapid expansion in the number of universities has allowed Turkey to have more university graduates, enabling Turkey to transform its young population and large labor force into a skilled workforce.

Urbanization
