Kirsehir is located in the Central Kızılırmak Basin in midpoint of Turkey. In terms of location, it is surrounded by Kozaklı, Hacıbektaş and Gülşehir districts of Nevşehir in the east and southeast; Ortaköy of Aksaray in the south; Şereflikoçhisar and Bâlâ of Ankara in the southwest; Keskin and Delice of Kırıkkale in the northwest; Boğazlıyan and Yerköy of Yozgat in the north and northeast. The city is located on the north of the triangle called Cappadocia together with Kayseri and Nevşehir.
The only university in the city is Ahi Evran University. There are many faculties and colleges in the university along with the faculty of medicine. Located in a thermally rich geography, the city is at the intersection of east-west, north-south axes. Petlas, the only domestic-owned tire factory of Turkey, makes production here.
Kırşehir has a feature of cultural and artistic center in the middle of the Anatolian steppe. The philosophy of Ahilik, which is admired even today, was born and spread in Kırşehir, and it has a dazzling cultural asset. Kırşehir is such a city that raised Aşık Paşa, who was one of the immortal poets of Turkish literature who defended Turkish with a great faith in 13th century; and Caca Bey, scholar of astronomy, Islamic law, philosophy-sufism, and many others. Apart from these, many sound artists, journalists and scientists were also raised in Kırşehir. The city was included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music in 2019 and has become Turkey's first and only music city.
